I don't mean to insult anyone who really values being there day one, but for me I just don't care about early access at all. Playing a game a few days early is so unimportant to me I would never even consider paying extra for it.
Yeah, every time I see one of these stories, I'm very confused. Who is this article for? The people dumb enough to give publishers MORE money for a half-assed, unfinished game? Are they supposed to read this article and be converted? I don't pre-order anything and I rarely spend more than $40 on a game, so I truly don't give a shit.
If some rich douchebag has found a way to separate fools from their money, good for him. LOL
And you're never going to be able to do anything about that. There are millions of people who make stupid, irresponsible decisions all the time. There are millions of dollars spent to keep them doing that. As long as they continue, the companies keep winning. You can't fix stupid.
Just because they're normalised, it doesn't mean they've won. There are still plenty of us out there who refuse to pay full price for a game, let alone do something as stupid as pre-order
I have a few early access games in my library, but they have been "early access" for 5 years now. IMO that doesn't count as "early" anymore. I've never bought a game within the first year of release, much less 5 days before release. But if people are willing to do that, hey, it's their choice to get disappointed 🤷
