The Jordan Peterson sub is particularly funny. Some of them do achieve wealthy status, get all the expensive clothes and cars, then make posts asking why women don't want to talk to them despite obtaining "everything" they want. And then JP adjacent people on twitter are flabbergasted when some hot woman dates a guy who isn't rich nor a catwalk model and try to philosophize "there's something going on with women...."
I remember seeing many arguments that it's better to take advice on "getting women" from men who get a lot of women than from actual women. The irony is lost on them
on my way to the gym to tell all the gay guys with body dysmorphia because they're trying to get impossibly muscular that beauty standards don't apply to them and they're being "heteronormative"
No, just a wrong thing, since you specifically said "conventionally" attractive. As others have pointed out to you, that isn't the case. Which is the point of the meme were all responding to.
Not everyone's attracted to the same things, not everyone is primarily attracted to physical features, not everyone is even allosexual in the first place, please pull your head out of your ass and realize that not everybody see the world like an average cishet dude, you mansplaining dingus.
You said everybody is shallow because everybody is into conventionally attractive people. That's literally what you said in your post. And it's utter bullshit. So i gave you a very short and by no means exhaustive list of examples why people would not be attracted to conventionally attractive people. I and other people could go on for hours who else would disagree with you. "Conventionally attractive" is an inherently cisnormative, heteronormative aesthetic, most people i hang out with do not resonate with it at all. That's not even getting into the rampant fatphobia and the white supremacist thinking that's also baked into the accepted concept of "conventionally attractive". And many of the acespec people i know just do not judge attraction primarily by physical features and do not get how you can already tell a person is hot just by looking at them. Your entire assumption of what "everybody" finds attractive just very quickly stops to work outside of your little straight people world. ofc i'm gonna call that out. That's not even beginning to unpack your implicit assumptions about valueing physical attractiveness higher than other traits when determining how attractive a person is.
The term conventionally attractive already means that it's an artificial societal standard that's forced on people against their will, against their natural desires, and frequently against their needs. That's what "convention" means in a societal context: an enforced and policed norm.
I think what you're saying is pretty liberal, idealist, white supremacist, racist, and sexist too. you think beauty standards that are imposed on all of us, constantly reinforced by society can somehow not apply to members of that society? you can just choose to say "that's bullshit man" and it doesn't affect you at all? people's environments and material circumstances don't affect them, just what ideas they choose to hold?
do you think implicit bias doesn't exist? I totally reject racism and I know some people who say they're totally 0% racist and they reject racism too, so implicit bias must just be fake.
we live in a society. conventional beauty standards affect everyone and yeah people are going to, whether they know it or not, whether they want to or not, be more attracted to conventionally attractive people.
the only issue I ever had was with the post I was replying to. people say stuff like being shallow (caring about physical attractiveness) is just a male thing and that physical attractiveness isn't something women care about. that's one of the ideas that generates incels. these guys are told their entire lives that women don't care about looks, only confidence and charisma. then they never get anywhere with women and see/hear women gushing about how tall a guy is, how muscular a guy is, a guy's hair and realize it was all bullshit and turn 100% in the other direction.
Stop moving the goalposts and putting words in my mouth, stop weaponizing identities against marginalized comrades, stop being a fucking debate pervert arguing in bad faith and for fuck's sake stop your fucking incel apologia.
Most people are attracted to conventionally attractive people, but what is considered attractive is actually pretty wide and deep when you start to ask around.
i'm not on instagram. but everyone else seems to be.
i'm not attractive. my brother is. when we walk around together girls look at him. they never look at me. it's ok i am married to an awesome lady. but it's pretty obvious that girls like hot guys just as much as guys like hot girls. and that everyone just settles for what is obtainable at the end of the day.
what most people do is find someone with a personality they can tolerate who is as hot as they can attract to themselves.
Some years back a friend of mine proposed a model where there are various different aggregates of personality and physical traits. Within each type, people see what confirms their preferences or dispositions to be "hot", and what goes against these concepts to be "not hot". As a result, there's a consistent clustering of people, and a symmetry in how they order each other, where if you see people in cluster A as a 9, it'll look like hot people getting with hot people, while people in cluster B might each see the cluster A people as a 2 and vice versa. Relativism of attraction with consistency.
I mean there's all sorts of people out there, some women are in fact incredibly shallow. So are some men. Realizing that genders aren't monolithic beings that you interact with identical avatars of is probably the first lesson these losers should be taking to heart. Another one is that other people being shitty doesn't justify doing so yourself. It's a pathetic cope for sure.
I was more talking about socialisation. Men aren't naturally more shallow than women, but they are socialised to commodify them. "Society says you've made it if you have this house, this car, this type of woman." So a lot of them end up objectifying women they same way they would a car, as a product to indicate wealth.
It's the exact conditioning grifters like Jordan Peterson tap into.
