I'm going to vote for RFK. I think he has a couple of good points about looking at source code, rather than banning apps made in China. The whole TikTok ban was just stupid. Google, Microsoft, and other corporate companies already do so much shady stuff; why the hell are we banning businesses from other countries when all we need is the source code? Also, he is against government surveillance, which I think is a really good thing that can really restore our democracy. I've felt as if we've lost so much of our freedoms just from all this mass surveillance. People cannot look for information freely, which is a very important part of our democracy.
Can you elaborate? I was looking for an actual debate, but okay, if you just wanna call me stupid, go ahead I guess.
Edit: He isn't even against vaccines, so what are you on about? He advocates for more safety and regulation when it comes to vaccines, that doesn't mean he's against it.
You can't really debate someone who is so far out to sea that they're considering RKJ. It would take an entire essay just to bring you up to speed on so much
Okay, please elaborate just a little bit then atleast. Just claiming he's bad and not beinging up anything else is not sufficient enough for me to change my current view of him. I'm open to debate.
His issues and lies are blatant, and easy to find. Nobody has the time or energy to educate you, especially if you've seen the criticism and ignore it, cause I would imagine if you decided on voting RKJ, you at least looked him up. And if you looked him up, saw all the shit about him and continue to want to vote for him, there's no debating with you. It's hopeless.
Oh my god, so you can write a whole paragraph but can't even give me one reason? Doesn't seem like you have any actual points then, how do you expect me to change my views? Literally all you keep saying is that he's bad and then you don't even follow up with one point? Yeah, I don't know if I've changed my mind yet 😂
Your reply is exactly why nobody will "debate" you. Cause that's not what you want. You want validation. All of his bullshit is easy to find , now if you believe his bullshit is a different matter and we're clearly living a different reality
Source code is trade secret and you're not going to get it. Even if you did, the amount of time you would have to devote to code review, understanding said code, it is far too easy to obfuscate.
RFK is an unserious person and you lack critical thinking skills if you take anything he says or stands for seriously.
Again, if you legitimately want to learn, ignorance, can be solved.
But rejecting truth, in face of all evidence, is stupid, has no cure, and then I hope that you don't reproduce.
Advocating for source code transparency goes beyond naiveté; it’s about advocating for freedom in technology. Holding a different viewpoint doesn't equate to a lack of critical thinking—it represents a diversity of perspectives.
Personal attacks serve no purpose in a rational debate. They only detract from meaningful dialogue. If that's the chosen route of discourse, I'll opt not to engage.
It's notable that without substantial debate, accusations of stupidity have been made. Such a tactic often reflects a lack of maturity.
Effective arguments stand on their own merit, not on the belittlement of others.
Oh, please. Forced to review code? You're missing the whole point. We want the option to peek under the hood, not a homework assignment. It's about having control, not being controlled.
And calling me out for watching Joe Rogan? That's your comeback? Maybe step up your debate skills before throwing around insults.
well, stupid is thinking that the source code of an app means anything when all the data goes to their servers and they can and will do whatever they want with it there.
Seriously, does nobody know how to debate here? Source code is crucial because it allows us to audit the app to ensure it's safe for app stores. If it's only communicating with a server and not spying on users, then all it really has is account data. It's about making sure the app doesn't have any malicious features. It's crazy how quickly everyone jumps to calling each other stupid.
This is why politicians say buzz words and people buy into it because they don't think critically into what this would actually involve.
Worrying about foreign apps, when Google and Facebook collect as much, or more, is just like jingling keys in front of a baby. It's a distraction. Go ahead, vote for RFK, let me know what that gets you.
I've been consistent in my stance from the beginning. In my original comment, I already acknowledged that companies like Google and Microsoft collect our data. That's precisely why I advocate for the release of source codes across the board, not just for TikTok but universally.
Maybe learn how to read before you start going off about how smart you are ;)
Dismissing the push for openness as foolish shows a severe lack of understanding of the current tech landscape and consumer expectations. It's not about what they would consent to; it's about what should be standard practice in a society that values digital rights and privacy.
Pretty much any social media app has enough data to spy on users. The issue is what the company does with the data that it can and does gather. Foreign companies have no obligations to American laws. Looking at the source code of an app doesn't change anything since they all gather data and they all send that data to their servers.
Agreed, users do sign off on some data collection. However, this consent doesn't extend to all the app's actions, especially the undisclosed ones. That's precisely where access to source code becomes critical. It allows us to identify any hidden, potentially harmful features that could breach privacy or security—issues that go beyond what users have signed up for. Full transparency in source code is vital to ensure that an app fully respects user agreements and trust.
apps can't use hardware features without requesting permissions. it's a security measure that both iOS and Android enforce. I know this because I develop apps. you don't have to look at the source code for this.
time to stop arguing with an expert on the matter. you really just don't know what you're talking about.
Expertise is one thing, but assuming permissions make source code access irrelevant? That's a stretch. Real tech pros know layers of security are what keep us safe, not just gatekeeping features. If that's your expert take, I'm skeptical.
ok buddy. you're basically just spouting tech terms like you have any clue. the evidence that you have absolutely none is your insistence in arguing with an expert in their field. you can't get any more dunning Kruger than this.
good job being a textbook example of one of the world's biggest problems: dummies thinking they know better than actual experts.
Expert or not, the point stands that open source helps everyone check what's really going on. That's not Dunning-Kruger; it's common sense. You're not an expert if you don't understand these basic concepts.
