Street trees are the only municipal asset that increases in value and capacity over time. Here are some things you should keep in mind for when youโre ready to get out there and start planting!
When the soil is dryโbelow the surface where the roots are. Depending on the age and species, they can tolerate dryer or deeper soil moisture but in general most of the time when itโs dry in the top few inches it wonโt hurt to water them unless youโre dealing with a desert species. Make sure to water deeply and over a wide area, avoiding the area immediately around the trunk unless the tree was recently planted.
