Friendly reminder that we are all comrades here and we should act better on that (myself included).
This is directed at nobody in particular. I know this is a rough time of year for a lot of people and just to remind everyone to think of the person on the other end of the line. We're almost through it, the light is coming back, the Holidays (TM) are over and we made it through another horribly fucked up year. On behalf of the hexbear mods we love you all and we want to keep this place being as cool as it is.
Also want to take the time to acknowledge some of our most consistently wholesome posters like @Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net and @corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net I honestly don't know how yall keep it up and I salute you.
I could list many others but they are the two that first popped into my head and I wanted to get this post out there sooner than later.
I saw a video recently debunking the claim that "you phone is listening to your conversations" that basically said "They don't need to know what you're saying IRL." they will legit use other ambient info to figure out who you are in regular contact with and start recommending products your friends like to you.
Imagine your presence on the internet as a displacement of a fluid. The algorithms can detect this "displacement of online fluid" and read the shape of it to connect accounts and profiles that have a similar "shape" or "footprint" and then tie those all together. And even if you never attached any IRL identity to that profile and only used one distinct profile to interact with for example, google, it could still be used to track you or serve ads.
That's why I'm cool with my drivers license and card on my phone. 1) what good do you see yourself doing with my identity? 2) don't you already have it, dark net/CIA wizard?
