Outside of twitter and facebook, youtube is third on the list for unhinged freakshows to hang out on.
Whatsapp is up there as well
WhatsApp is different because in a lot of cases, basically everybody uses it and it's replaced text messaging. So yeah there are plenty of dodgy group chats with wackos, but I only join groups with people I already know in person.
Do people use WhatsApp to join random group chats?
3rd world boomers who use it probably do because they're just mashing buttons and getting their brains melted by it.

Yes. It's like telegram groups. They also have wierd new features like "communities" and "channels" so it's more social media than you would think.
Same with me. But I've also seen people get radicalized by joining weird groups.
Yeah that's true unfortunately. I tell my grandparents to ignore all the community features on WhatsApp. Facebook gives them enough brainworms already.
News website comment sections are #1
