Another example of dog whistle theory. Libs can find conservative friends tolerable because the dog whistles land on deaf ears. And conservatives can find each other suitable because they aren't open about most of their internal beliefs. "Fuck wokeism" is not really explaining what they believe. If they said "I hate black people", they'd probably find a lot less friends. But the canyon of wokeism allows a lot of interpretation. Is it woke to approve of affirmative action? Ok maybe someone who isn't racist could believe that. Words get entrenched in layers upon layers of abstraction. Republicans probably would argue with their closest friends if any of them could express their views clearly. I'm guessing the friendship lies within those wide canyons.

Hell, I'm guilty of it. My mom and her husband (not my bio father) are Trump toting folks. I consider myself a "friend" of her husband. He's a good guy deep down. I've seen him care for the elderly for years, as a volunteer. He looks out for his community. But he doesn't seem to see how the way he votes hurts his community. I don't think he's racist. I just think he's... Ignorant? I guess. But that, too, feels harsh. It's a difficult subject for me because I am as far left as you can get. But I see him as a man who has helped people in the toughest of situations. And I've never seen him discriminate. He just is deluded by the "old days" - of which - don't really exist.

I get how they have friends. I just don't think they get why I'm upset.

Not to mention, most "conservative" institutions function as America's crutch for socialism. Churches have long functioned as a home for the poor and needy. When it dropped to -40F in Wisconsin, where did the homeless go? Churches. And where do conservatives put their tax dollars? Churches. Churches are just super inefficient socialism (since tithing also goes to the god toting B.S. and megachurches). Conservatives just don't trust their fellow humans. They think they know what's best for their money. Yet they see nothing wrong with the taxes going to DoD contracts. I mean, fuck, DoD contracts are basically UBI for Americans. How many friends and family are benefiting from the military directly or via private contractors? Half of my friends are either in the military or contractors for the military.

I just think America has a culture problem. We are a war tribe. What were you saying again?
