Hello everybody! Today I'm showing you the recipe for a much-requested dish: Budae-jjigae a.k.a "Army Base Stew." It's a spicy, savory, Korean-American fusion dish made from an umami-rich broth, Korean hot pepper paste, flakes, kimchi, and American Spam, beans, and sausage. This dish was...
This is one of my all time favorite soups, probably because I like things with a lot of stuff on/in them. It says the rice cakes are optional, but I feel like they're a must. Additionally, I'd highly recommend adding ramen noodles in addition to the glass noodles and rice cakes.
It's got such an interesting origin. If you have a Korean or Asian store around you, definitely try to find the Nong Shim Army Stew Instant Ramyun. It's great and you can just add stuff to it for a quick and easy meal.
Oh, it's just the instant packets like Shin or Neoguri, or the millions of others, lol. But the Korean Army Stew one has beans, little fake spam things, and some other stuff. I still usually add a slice of cheese, egg and sometimes some extra real spam. But yeah, making it from scratch is still pretty easy as well. But sometimes having a quick and easy meal is needed and the instant version is still really good.
