On a more serious note, I do think it’s kinda dumb that local attractions have to pay to be on those signs. You’d think it would be more of a community funded thing to encourage more tourists.
Maintaining roads is expensive. I can understand why they are looking for any funding they can get
Where I live we just use taxes for that
New Jersey uses taxes and tolls.

Open 6+ days a week Public restrooms Drinking water
Each state is different but they're generally similar to NYs for instance
