I think a measure of how bad AI is the lack of its use in "simple" tasks like entirely replacing phone staff. If AI was even serviceable - it would already be widely used for that stuff. But the last thing a company wants is for the AI to fuck up and automatically give a 10,000% refund. And if AI warmly ends the conversations with a 0.001% refund and hangs up - that would drive customers postal.
